On Thursday, December 8th, the Ortonville Entrepreneurship Explosion held the third meeting of their nine meeting series. The program teaches participants how to successfully launch and operate their own small business.
Staying inspired in the Brandon Township Public Library, the December meeting focused on marketing and promotion, and understanding the impact of knowing the needs of their customers.
The participants met Kris Harris, a local business owner who shared her entrepreneurial story of starting The Travelling Chef, a catering business located in Ortonville. She detailed her experience of starting small and growing her business, and answered several questions yielded by the youths.
Participants also worked individually and in groups on topics including the 4 P's of marketing, and essential aspects of starting your own business (they needed to list 26-- with each aspect starting with a different letter of the alphabet!). By delving into these topics, they were able to explore the fundamental variables that come with launching their own business-- from how to attract new customers, to ensuring the business is profitable.
The Ortonville Entrepreneurship Explosion is a program of Michigan State University Extension 4-H Youth Development in collaboration with the Ortonville Downtown Development Authority, Brandon Township Public Library, Ortonville Chamber of Commerce, and Main Street .
